Lava Iris 406Q Review, best low end Android?

9:14 AM Posted by phonesoldier , , No comments
Android is a great operating system but I generally avoid it in the low end category as there are aren't any good options available but Lava, a few days launched their Iris 406Q with Snapdragon Qualcomm Quad core processor, Android KitKat and much more with a price tag of just 7k INR which looks awesome but how is it in real life usage? Let's find out in my in depth review of the Lava Iris 406Q!

BUILD AND DESIGN.

Now when it comes to build quality and design in low end category, you can't really expect something great from a device and this phone is no exception.

The iris 406Q comes with a plastic build with checker board looking back which looks decent on the white model but not that good on the black one!

The phone is really thick with dimensions 64x124x10.3 mm and looks a lot like the Iphone 4 because of the 4 inches screen.

The design is not really eye catchy like its competitor, the Nokia X but it works.

DISPLAY.

Display is another aspect where this phone fails with its 4-inches WVGA display with a pixel density of 233ppi which looks decent but is not.

Color reproduction is really poor with inaccurate colors and viewing angles are horrible! You can't look at this phone from any angle. Outdoor visibility is passable if you are keeping the brightness to the maximum.

Display is good if you are looking at it straight but fails when you look from an angle.

HARDWARE.

When it comes to the connectivity options available, you've got 3G, Bluetooth v4.0 which is nice and surprisingly WiFi hotspot too.

In the storage compartment, you have 4GB of internal storage from which only 2GB is available for user but you also have Mircro SD card expansion up to 32GB.

If we talk about sensors available, it has accelerometer and proximity sensor.

It is also a Dual SIM device if you want to use two sims.

The phone runs on 1700mAh removable battery which is not really good but can give a full day on moderate usage but on the plus side, it is removable so you can carry a spare while travelling.

I also need to talk about the call quality and WiFi problems here as they are not quite adequate and the phone sometimes drops WiFi signals like the Moto G.

SOFTWARE.

Lava Iris 406Q comes with the Android 4.3 Jellybean which can be updated to android Kitkat 4.4 which is nice.

On top of that, we have a near to stock android experience with no features that are worth mentioning.

The Software is not a problem and runs smoothly.

PERFORMANCE.

You will think that in performance, this phone is a mess but I've got a good news for you!

The phone features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 with Adreno 302 assisted 1GB RAM which isn't the best but looking at the competition with MediaTek quad core processors, this is much better!

The phone runs lag free and can run almost all the games out there!

CAMERA.

Camera as you would think is not the best and gives you not-so-decent images.

It rocks a 5MP primary camera with a LED flash which lacks Auto Focus which is a real bummer but gives you good images in sufficient lighting and outdoors.

Indoors however, this camera fails and the flash doesn't help either.

The phone also has a VGA front facing camera that is near to good for selfies and video calls.

Iris 406Q is also capable of recording videos @720p.

The camera app also contains features like HDR, panorama, geo-tagging and much more.

TO SUM UP...

Lava iris 406Q is overall a great phone and worth the price that is 7000 INR but there are some quarks like Bad viewing angles, camera is not up to the mark and not so premium design. If you are okay with these drawbacks, then go for it.
