Moto E review, Nokia killer?

12:21 PM Posted by phonesoldier , , No comments
Android market is increasing everyday but where it lags is the low end market where most customers prefer windows phone or a Nokia device  but now we have the priced for all and made to last Moto E with extremely low price retailing at $129 off contract or 7K INR!

So let's find out whether this phone is the best low end smartphone in the market right now or not in my full review here.

DESIGN AND BUILD.

Moto G is an exceptional phone with a great build that fits right in your palm and surprisingly the Moto E comes with the same build and design that feels and fits great!

Motorola Moto E reviewIt feels robust, with very little flex in the body apart from when pressing very hard on the screen, which bends slightly. That solid build makes the phone relatively heavy at 142g, and noticeably heavier than the Nokia Lumia 520 or some other super-budget smartphones.

The Moto E is also very thick which could be a great feature for some and for some it is just cheap! It comes with a matt plastic back with a curved design that is as I said before is perfect.

The design and build is overall is great and doesn't feel cheap either.

DISPLAY.

The display as you would expect is not that great as its sibling Moto G and reflects the price of the phone from all angles.

                      Motorola Moto E review

The display is not bad at all, considering the price and the competition including the Nokia X or the lumia 520, the display is really good.

Moto E rocks a 4.3-inches 540 x 960 pixels (~256 ppi pixel density) display which is adequate for regular usage.

Despite being low resolution, the screen is very good. It is bright, with decent viewing angles and good colour saturation – a cut above most of its competition, including the Nokia Lumia 520. In general use the screen is crisp enough for viewing most text. It is only when you start to look at smaller text on desktop web pages that it becomes hard to read compared to higher resolution phones like the Moto G.

Gorilla Glass covers the Moto E’s screen, making it scratch resistant, while a P2i nano waterproof coating on both the inside and outside of the phone makes it water repellent and splash proof.

Bottom line is that the display is decent enough and can be lived with!

HARDWARE.

When it comes to connectivity options, Moto E comes with 3G, Bluetooth v4.0 and WiFi Hotspot!

Device comes with 4GB of internal storage of which only 2GB is user available but not to worry because this time Motorola added Micro SD card support so that you can increase your storage up to 32GB.

The speakers on the Moto E are on the front, they are the same as the Moto G in quality and loudness but having them on the front boosts the experience a lot!

Now when we talk about the battery, Moto E runs on a 1980mAh non removable (the back is removable so that you could swap different back covers! ) battery that is great!

It can give you a solid full day on heavy usage and a period of two days on moderate usage which is I think one of the finest android battery out there.

SOFTWARE.

Software is I think the most important part when it comes to low end android devices but this phone completely fills that void.

Moto E comes with Android 4.4.2 with near stock android experience which is extremely smooth given the low specs!

Closing and opening of applications cannot be comparable to a higher end phone but it is not that slow and is fast enough to give you a lag free life.

Motorola has added a few bespoke apps, including Motorola Migrate, which helps you transition to the Moto E from other Android smartphones, pulling contacts, call history and text messages, photos and videos wirelessly to your new phone.

Motorola Assist is another useful app that plugs into your calendar, automatically silencing your phone when in meetings or at night, with favourites lists that allow phone calls through if the caller calls twice in quick succession.

Finally, Motorola Alert is worth mentioning as it acts as a panic button, automatically calling emergency contacts or the emergency services, as well as sounding an alarm. The app can send your location to a friend or family member, and send short bursts of pre-defined text like “I’m in danger! I need your help."

Software is I think the only place where there is no flaw and is perfect.

PERFORMANCE.

Performance is the category where I think you are concerned the most because of the low specs and you should be as this is not the fastest or the near fastest phone out there.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 1.2GHz dual-core processor makes the Moto E relatively fast and responsive, while 1GB of RAM – typically twice what is available in other smartphone costing around this device allows every app to run without running into memory issues.

When it comes to gaming performance, Moto E is capable of running almost all the games excluding the graphically intensive games like MC4 or Fifa 14.

You can run Asphalt 8 on low graphics else it will drop frame rates at some point.

Performance is overall great and this is the best android performance you can get in this price range.

CAMERA, DROP YOUR HOPES!

It’s a 5-megapixel camera, but it lacks auto-focus, which means that objects in the foreground can appear out of focus if too close. The photos it captures are weak, often lacking colour and detail – not a replacement for a point-and-shoot camera like most more expensive smartphones.

It also lacks a flash, while video capture is limited to standard definition. There is also no front-facing camera, which means selfies and video calling are out, but that is probably not a problem for the target market as the competition lags here too like the Nokia X or the lumia 520.

Camera is capable of giving you some great shots in enough lighting but in low light, it completely fails!

Camera is the part where the Moto E falls apart completely.

If you are a photo addict, this is not for you!

I would still give a pass to Moto E here because of its price.

Take a look at some snaps taken from the Moto E.

Because of the fixed focus, forget about taking close ups!
Outdoors however, the camera performs decent!

TO SUM UP...

Moto E is the best android phone in its category with a lag free experience that misses from every android device in its category.
If you want a android phone with capabilities of running almost all apps and can live with a poor camera, this is for you else increase your budget and opt for the Moto G!

I would soon post comparisons of this phone with Nokia X, Nokia lumia 520 and Moto G, so stay tuned for that!

Phonesoldier Talks: Is the Bluelight Filter app actually helpful for your eyes?

2:12 PM Posted by phonesoldier , , , No comments
Cover artA couple of days back, I came across an app in the play store on my Nexus 7 called Bluelight Filter which helps you to add a Bluelight filter to your display that results in less eye strains while reading or browsing the web on your tablet/smartphone. So is this app actually useful for your eyes? Let's find out in this latest edition of Phonesoldier talks!

Let's first take a closer at the functions this app provides!

1. This app adjusts your screen color to reduce the blue light and reduce your eye strain and troubles to sleep.

Bluelight Filter for Eye Care - screenshot

2. This app's filter has natural color that means no artificial lights that cause damage to your eyes.

3. You can adjust the opacity of the filter using the setting app.

4. You can choose to show or hide the filter in the status bar and go into settings directly from there!

Bluelight Filter for Eye Care - screenshot

5. You can choose one from 5 filter colors including red, brown and much more.

6. Battery life is long because this app doesn't handle it except when you set up the filter. The app adjusts the color temperature only, so this needs little memory.

So now enough with the features, now let's move to the review!

I've been using this app for almost a week now and I am using it while reading, browsing the web, tweeting and much more. I also switched back to normal to see the difference on eyes and I was really surprised by the result.

This app actually reduces the strain and with this app, you could use your tablet/smartphone for a longer period of time as your eyes no longer hurt and you won't have any trouble in sleeping after using your device.

If we talk about the amount of battery it uses, it is NIL! This app almost uses your 0% battery, i saw no difference in my battery life at all.

So, grab this 500KB sized app for free from the play store here!

Would you ditch a Nexus 5 for $50?

10:39 AM Posted by phonesoldier , , , , No comments
I am actually here talking about the OnePlus one release that basically caused an explosion in the technology world with its price and ultra high end specs!

OnePlus one after a lot of rumors was finally launched and the price is the major point that everyone is talking about! So, the question that came into my mind was WHY WOULD I DITCH A NEXUS 5 TO SAVE $50? but that is not that little price when it comes to different markets like India where this difference could result in 3k difference! So let's find out the answer to this question but first let's take a look  at the specs so that you can get a better idea!

The OnePlus One features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (8974AC) platform with a quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 CPU, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The display is a 5.5" full HD JDI-made, resulting in a pixel density of 401ppi. In the performance field, the phone is already beating the nexus 5 as you can see!

The OnePlus One runs CyanogenMod 11S based on Android 4.4 KitKat. UI is flat and minimal. There are also a bunch of custom themes and icons specially made for the device. It is not the best android skin out there but it is not that bad and can be accepted.

  OnePlus One review

OnePlus put a great deal of effort into the design of the One and its hows. The company tried materials such as stainless steel and aluminum for the One, but with a weight of 198g and 175g, respectively, was unacceptable. As a result, the team chose magnesium for the build of the phone and it brings down the weight of the phone to 162 grams. In fact, OnePlus claims this is the lightest 5.5" smartphone in the world.

The One measures 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9mm with the edges of the phone measure 4.6mm. At the bottom, there are dual stereo speakers and popular audio company JBL helped for their fine tuning which could really interesting once it releases!

        OnePlus One review

At the back, the OnePlus One features a 13 MP Sony IMX214 Sensor with 6 Lenses and f/2.0 Aperture. The camera can record 4K video. The camera is capable of quick shutter speed of 0.3 seconds.

          OnePlus One review

The back cover of the OnePlus One is removable and the company is also launching special StyleSwap covers. Available in bamboo, wood, denim and kevlar, the StyleSwap covers add a dash of personality to the One similarly to the Moto X. Sadly, the 3,100mAh Li-Po battery isn't user replaceable which i think won't be necessary given the size of the battery!

The OnePlus One will launch in Q2 with Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, UK and the USA getting it first. More markets are expected to follow suit soon after.

Available in Sandstone Black and Silk White, the unlocked 16GB OnePlus One will retail for $299 (€269 in Europe) and the 64GB model will cost you $350 (€299 in Europe). In the UK, the phone will sell for £229 and £269 for the 16GB and 64GB model respectively.

Specifications are really high end and nexus 5 is nowhere when we compare them on paper! But now let's get back to the question! Would you ditch a nexus 5 for $50? Let me rephrase it, WOULD YOU DITCH A NEXUS 5 FOR A CHINESE BRAND?

Chinese brands always have the high specs and lower prices, we saw this already in the Gionee Elife E7 which was quite expensive and around nexus 5! But that wasn't really a great success!

And that's going to happen for this phone! The specs are the best i agree and better than the nexus 5 but no one would actually buy this phone just because of one thing that is RELIABILITY! This is actually the one of the biggest reasons of why this phone will fall apart! No one just yet actually trusts chinese brands no matter how good they are! People are going to praise it, like it but will eventually buy the nexus 5 because the trust factor is still missing! Same happened to Gionee or Xiaomi!

The next thing because of which people are going to avoid this is the after sales support! There's no customer support in these brands at all! A fair example of this is Oppo which is terrible in after sales support!

The main thing is that if people are not going to buy these phones, companies won't invest and it will eventually shut down! I don't think it is about the phone anymore, it is just about the company that provides it!

So the answer of that question is still a no only because the company is not trustworthy!

But if we talk about the phone alone, it is incredible and has absolutely no comparison! If the reasons mentioned above are resolved, It is going to change the definition of flagship!

The Finale: The Nokia lumia 1320 vs the HTC desire 816!

In one of my comparisons, I declared the Nokia lumia 1320 as the best mid range phablet in the market but now the situation is changed when it comes to competition as HTC launched their 5.5 inches desire 816 retailing at the price of 24k!

The desire 816 already won in its comparison with Sony Xperia T2 ultra in my recent article and now it's time for the final battle of the best mid range phablet! Let us begin!

While on the brighter side, you do get price benefit when you opt for the Nokia lumia 1320 which is retailing at the price of 20k! But we are going to compare them head to head!

DESIGN AND BUILD!

At first glance you would've thought that the HTC Desire 816 was a high profile handset. At 156.6 x 78.7x7.99mm and 165.5g it's is surprisingly comfortable to carry around. In fact, it is slim and light for a phablet. On the downside, the phone is made out of polycarbonate plastic rather than lush aluminum, unlike the HTC One M8. The back is I said before is a little slippery and the side is matte which tends to get dirty sometimes! The design overall is fantastic given the price!

The Lumia 1320 looks more or less similar to traditional Nokia made devices. It has a straight forward design but a bit chunk at 164.2 x 85.9 x 9.8 mm and weighs 220g. The back of the lumia 1320 has much more grip while using for a longer period but it is not that attractive especially the black one which is really ugly and you should avoid that colour or always use a cover while using that colour!

The design points go to the desire 816 which feels and looks much more premium!
While on the other hand, the material points go to the lumia 1320 which is much more comfortable to hold!

DISPLAY.

The display again surprisingly is similar in both the devices that is 720p which looks a lot different on both the devices!

In the field of outdoor visibility, viewing angles or colour contrast, both phones are fantastic and have incredible display!

The Lumia 1320 uses ClearBlack technology which improves the contrast of the display and reduces reflections.

Display is not that great on either phonesbut when it comes to pixels, the desire 816 is the winner but when we compare them in reality, the case is almost similar and there is no difference at all!

If you are a reader and love to read on the go, the lumia 1320 is better with its ClearBlack technology and bigger display!

HARDWARE.

When it comes to hardware, both have all the connectivity options and neither of them lacks in them!

But when it speakers, you know who the winner is! The HTC desire 816 boomsound outruns the Nokia lumia 1320 at a much higher level and it is still the best in this range!

However when we talk about battery,
The HTC Desire 816 has a 2600mAh battery fitted inside, which the company claims to run for a longer duration.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 features a 3400mAh battery which can keep this beast for some more extra hours.

So in conclusion, the battery on the Nokia lumia 1320 is better than the desire 816! If you are a moderate user, you can even get two days on the lumia 1320 which is great to have!

Both devices have 8GB of internal memory space. However, the Desire 816's 8GB of ROM can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card slot.

In case of the Nokia Lumia 1320, a user can expand the internal memory up to 64GB via a microSD card slot.

The HTC Desire 816 support Dual Nano SIM (GSM + CDMA GSM), whereas the Nokia Lumia 1320 doesn't support a dual SIM connectivity.

Both device have their own pros and cons, if you want entertainment, the desire 816 is better but if you want a longer run , the lumia 1320 is better!

SOFTWARE.

On the software side, it is totally up to you, which one you like better and I am not really going to talk about it that much as it would result in a battle of windows phone and android!

Both operating systems and UI are great and stable!

PERFORMANCE.

The HTC Desire 816 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz and 1.5GB of RAM which performs like a beast whether it is multi tasking or high end games!

The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 1.7GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, making it slightly less powerful when compared to the HTC Desire 816. However, it should be noted that Windows Phone 8 requires less power to run the hardware as always!

Performance is not really a concern on either device and you would face absolutely no lags!
Gaming points however will go to the HTC desire 816!

CAMERA.

Camera is the only place where we actually have a clear winner!

The HTC Desire 816 comes with a 13MP rear-facing camera with a single LED flash with BSI sensor and ability to record videos in Full HD (1080p) format. There's a 5MP front-facing shooter with BSI sensor which is great for capturing high quality selfies!

Camera as I said in my every article is great on this device! Especially in low light, the camera performs better than our expectations! Photos in almost all light conditions come out clear and detailed!

The case is totally opposite when it comes to the Lumia 1320!
The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 5MP rear-facing camera with a single LED flash, which can shoot 1080p FHD video recording, and has a VGA quality front-facing camera which is decent for video calls!

The camera on the lumia 1320 is not up to the mark but if you are not into photography that much and take photos occasionally, it is good! Photos come out great in sufficient lighting though!

The clear winner here is the HTC desire 816 with a much more capable camera!

TO SUM UP..

Both devices perform great in day to day usage! The pros of the lumia 1320 is bigger battery, ClearBlack display is great, and lesser price (4k INR benefit) while the pros of the HTC desire 816 are detailed display and camera! Choice is yours!

Winner technically is the HTC desire 816!
So i guess we have the best mid range phablet or smartphone!

Why you should not buy the Sony Xperia M2!

10:05 AM Posted by phonesoldier , , , , , No comments
So, another much awaited budget friendly ( was supposed to ) smartphone, the Sony Xperia M2 was launched in India 2 days back with the price tag of 22k INR! The predecessor of this phone, xperia m was really popular, especially for its price tag but the newly launched xperia m2 is nowhere near it!
Sony xperia M was only successful until Moto G with its incredible specs at the most reasonable price you could imagine came in! This created a impression in customer's mind that what was it like to use a budget device!

Sony Xperia M2 was first expected to launch with a price tag of around 17k because the only thing different in it from the Moto G was the camera which is not that great but just better than the Moto G!

So, we are here to going to take a much deeper look at the mistakes that Sony did which can affect it's second position in India!

DESIGN, SAME OLD SONY!

The design of the new Sony Xperia M2 is no exception of what you see in other Sony phones but when you compare with it's predecessor, it is a nice upgrade from the plastic built! But we already saw this design in most of the Sony's phones and i think it's time to change!

The phone has the same button layout and flaps BUT THE SURPRISING THING TO FOCUS ON HERE IS THAT THIS PHONE IS NOT WATERPROOF ( I am shocked too) ! It is a nice looking phone overall but i think that design is getting pretty boring!

SCREEN IS NO GOOD!

Resolution is the most serious issue. It's a 960 x 540 pixel screen that is 4.8-inches across. This gives a relatively low pixel density of 229ppi, and you can tell. Text looks less sharp than it would on a Z2 or – more importantly – a Motorola Moto G. I don't know what is wrong with Sony, but whatever they are doing, i hope they have a plan!

This is a shame, and it's the one part of the phone I find genuinely disappointing. Sony boasts about having the largest-in-class qHD screen in its release materials, but that's actually a bad thing.

The screen is dull, viewing angles are decent, outdoor visibility is not up to the mark and what not!

CAMERA IS LITTLE BETTER BUT NOT THAT MUCH!

We have already seen two aspects where Xperia M2 is perfectly crushed by the Moto G or any other phone in that range but i think camera is the area where Xperia M2 can shine!

The M2 rocks a 8MP shooter with a single LED that is capable of taking decent photos in sufficient lighting and as expected it is almost useless in low light!

The camera is capable of recording full HD videos if you were curious! Effects like HDR are also present if you wanna mess around with the settings!

PERFORMANCE IS NO SURPRISE TOO!

The phone comes with 1.2ghz quad core cortex-A7 processor with the Adreno 305 assisted with 1GB RAM!
The specs are really behind time and match exactly with the Moto G! This phone is capable of giving you a near smooth experience and you can play high end games on low graphics!

SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE.

When we talk about the software, this phone again shockingly comes with the older android jellybean 4.3 which as said by Sony will be updated to android kitkat and we hope it does given the specs!
On the top of that, we have the timescape UI which is always great and can be dealt with!

On the hardware department, the phone offers a lot of options including NFC, USB OTG, Bluetooth 4.0, and Wifi Direct!

The phone also alike all Sony phones offers the ability to expand the storage via micro-SD card and the memory can be expanded up to 32GB! The internal storage is 8GB!

Phone comes with a NON-REMOVABLE 2300 mAh battery which is capable of giving you a full day on moderate usage!

Reception is never a concern in Sony phones and this particular device is no exception!

TO SUM UP...

The Xperia M2 is a great device if you neglect the price which we obviously can't! So until the price of the xperia M2 drops hopefully up to 16k-17k, you should avoid it!
If you want a phone in that range, you can opt for the HTC desire 816 or the Moto X! If you don't want a better camera, then go for the Moto G and save almost 10k!

Thank you for reading but if you wanna keep reading my new articles, I have a new address now that is phonesoldier.com! Meet you there. :)

Phonesoldier Talks: What is Android still lacking!

11:23 AM Posted by phonesoldier , , , No comments
Android is right now the most popular mobile operating system with almost 80% of worldwide market share but it is not the best when we talk about some particular quarks about it and some people actually hate it for those reasons!

Also read- Why android holds about 80% of market share!

So, in this latest edition of phonesoldier talks, we are going to discuss the most annoying problems and drawbacks of android!

NO GRIP ON THE LOW END MARKET!

Low end is the most the important aspect of the mobile market but when we look at a android phone in low end price range, what do we have? The moto G, Indian brands, Nokia X or the Samsung core or dous 2!
Among these phones, i think the only phone that is capable of making your life simpler, is the Moto G!
Other just lag and are not up to the mark at all! Windows Phone is pretty consistent in this category and still holds it tight! So, if Android wants to basically rule the Mobile Market, it is extremely necessary to release some decent low end phones or bring android kitkat to all the phones!

STILL LACKS STABILITY!

Now, this has been also a drawback for android and is considered a drawback even after the release of kitkat! Popular names like "LagDroid" are still used for android on social networks! I am just saying that android other than the flagships phones , lags like you are using whatsapp on a feature phone and always concerns me! IOS and windows phone are always the answer when you want a lag free experience! Due to the heavy processing that happens on an android, phones with the non-latest specs often lag or freeze on a regular basis and android has to do something about it before it's share starts drowning!

FASTER ANDROID UPDATES TO NON-GOOGLE PHONES!

Updates have been always been a concern when it comes to android who are not made by google! Windows and Apple always provide updates to all their phones whether it is old or new!
Don't talk about Windows phone 7, let that case rest now! Flagships do receive updates but not that fast, and i don't really want to open the case of updates on low end android phones, because they take like a decade to bring in new updates!

TO SUM UP...

So sum up, Google has to fix all these problems as soon as possible to maintain its grip on the market, else its market share will definitely drown and after the release of Windows phone 8.1, they are in a lot more problems! I always liked android and flexibility but it is great, but it can be better!

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Sony Xperia Z2!

Now by reading the title, you might have understood that this article was not easy to write at all only beacuse these phones give a real competition to each other!Whether it is camera, performance, they were fighting edge to edge!

Previously i wrote article on HTC one M8 vs Samsung Galaxy S5, do make sure to check that out if you still haven't!

So let us begin, This is Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Sony Xperia Z2!

Sony and Samsung both in their latest flagships bring a evolution but nothing trendy that could be exciting, we do get the specification bumps but that's not enough, not enough for a new flagship! But still they do bring some changes and i am sure you are curious about how they stack up against each other!

DESIGN.

samsung galaxy s5 vs sony xperia z2 (5 of 14)

When it comes to design, nothing has changed overall on either phones and both of them continue their tradition in a way their predecessor did it!

The Samsung Galaxy S5 as i explained in my previous article features some rounded edges, same plastic built, same button layout! here are a couple of major changes when it comes to these buttons though — the menu key of old was replaced by a recent apps capacitive key, and the home button now feature an integrated fingerprint scanner. These changes might be exciting for some and for some it is just a washed out design including me!

On the Sony booth, the case is not different at all when it comes to changes in design! The new Xperia Z2 follows the same design tradition of its predecessor with some minor changes!

The aluminium frame and the tempered glass material of the Sony does brings some class to you when it comes to look and feel while on the galaxy s5, the company has moved on from glossy plastic, in favour of a soft touch finish resembling the finish of the Nexus 7 (2012). This change received some mixed reviews all over and most of them didn't like it at all because let's face it, you don't want some cheap plastic when you are buying a flagship!

The Sony Xperia Z2 however is slightly larger than the Samsung galaxy S5 with 0.1inches more and because of more bezels that now include some better speakers requires some hand gymnastic while using it! Samsung galaxy S5 like its predecessor is still very comfortable to use!

Overall, both the phones consists of different designs with one going for some premium feel and look and the other for better in hand experience!
I would personally go for the Sony Xperia Z2, because while using it, you do get the feeling of a flagship while on the Samsung galaxy S5, it just fades away!

DISPLAY.

Display as I always say is not really a problem when it comes to flagships but people do have some negative thoughts on Sony's displays which will be now i think will wash away!

samsung galaxy s5 vs sony xperia z2 (6 of 14)

The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 5.1 inch 1080p display (432 ppi) and gives you everything that you expect from a flagship that includes accurate colour contrasts, crispness, fantastic viewing angles and really great outdoor visibility! The display truly looks gorgeous on the phone with touchwiz shining all over the place! Colours do feel like they are coming out of the phone and you will have no problem in watching movies or playing highly graphical games!

The Sony Xperia Z2 also features a 1080p display, at a slightly larger 5.2-inch size, resulting in a pixel density of 424 ppi. There were quite a few issues with the display of the Xperia Z1, and in order to fix that, Sony introduced Live Colour LED technology alongside the Triluminos and X-Reality engine!
Basically what it means is that the problems that customers were facing in the previous Sony phones including bad viewing angles are now completely fixed and you will get the best experience on this phone too!

To sum up here, both phones rock a gorgeous and vibrant display and are truly winners! You won't have problem in either phones in any display aspect!

HARDWARE.

When it comes to hardware, the Samsung Galaxy S5 packs every hardware feature you can think of ranging from microSD card slot, NFC support, and IR blaster, to a few new additions that include the finger scanner up front, and the heart rate monitor on the back.

Sony is no loser too except if you want the fingerprint and heartrate scanner!
Like the S5, Sony’s phone packs a microSD slot and NFC support. Both devices feature support for the recently-released 128 GB microSD cards, so you shouldn’t have any trouble with memory.

When it comes to speakers on both the phones, Sony has changed things up with the Xperia Z2 now consist of front facing speakers which aren't as great as the HTC's but they still are better than the pale and weak rear speakers of the Samsung Galaxy S5!

You get a larger 3,200 mAh battery with the Sony Xperia Z2, compared to the 2,800 mAh unit found in the Galaxy S5. You will have no trouble getting a full day on heavy usage on either device and the superb battery saving features on the both the phones help the most when you want more than that!
While the battery on the xperia Z2 is bigger, the edge has to be given to the galaxy S5 that comes with a removable battery!

Another good feature that comes with both the phones is that you can jump in the swimming pool with them as they both are IP67 certified that allows them to be water and dust proof!

The edge in hardware has to be given to the Samsung galaxy S5 as it comes with more hardware features like the two scanners or a removable battery!

SOFTWARE.

When it comes to software, these both pack some really different looking UIs, they both however come with the latest android software that is KitKat!

sony xperia z2 aa (21 of 26)Sony likes to keep things simple and clean and that clearly can be seen in the UI they put in that is most of the times is considered as the near stock android experience! Sony with the Xperia Z2 didn't change their timescape UI at all and you get the same software, you get in the xperia Z1!

samsung galaxy s5 aa (21 of 36)While on the other side, when we talk about Samsung, its a whole different story and vision of the company!
Samsung always tries to make android their own by changing each and every element of the stock android that always results in some stupid and messed up UI and the galaxy S5 is no exception with the ofcourse different icons and the my magazine!

On the software side, if you want a simple and a elegant looking UI, you should go for the Sony! But if you want more out of your android like multi-window and other add ons, you should go with the galaxy S5!

PERFORMANCE.

When it comes to performance, both of these phones are a beast with the latest specs!

Both devices feature the best processing package currently available. The quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor is clocked at 2.5 GHz in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S5, compared to the 2.3 GHz of the Xperia Z2, with the Adreno 330 GPU ably supporting both. You do get 3 GB of RAM with the Xperia Z2 though, while the Galaxy S5 packs 2 gigs of RAM, but both will handle all your multi-tasking requirements very easily.

On the Sony Xperia Z2, the performance is handled on a much lighter android skin so when we talk about smooth experience, you might wanna go for the sony xperia Z2! Touchwiz is also now optimized for better performance but it still lags at times especially while using the My Magazine!

As I always mentioned, if you are from a region where Exynos processor comes in Samsung phones, go for the Sony Xperia Z2!

CAMERA.

On the camera side, i find it the most difficult comparison ever as these both phones are a great performers and capture really clear photos!

Samsung Galaxy S5 camera settingsOn of the biggest addition on the galaxy S5 is the new 16MP ISOCELL lens  which features a new technology that isolates each pixel from neighbouring ones for higher quality photos. The camera app like always contains too many features to play with but this time you do get some useful ones, like the Live HDR and the selective focus! The selective focus doesn't always results in perfect effects but it is still fun and brings some style to your photos!

Photos have good detail, and they do retain their sharpness even after zooming in, though this is not true in every case. Nonetheless, the colour reproduction is great, and even in low light, if you have the stabilizer on, you do get some good captures.

sony xperia z2 aa (14 of 26)The Sony Xperia Z2 features the same 20.7 MP camera of the Z1, with some improvements across the board. When it comes to the app, it includes a few more features this time around, with Timeshift video, 4K video, augmented reality apps, and its own selective focus mode, along with Superior Auto, which does a really good job of selecting the right settings for each scene.

The picture quality on this phone has been improved a lot from its predecessor in each and every field especially in dark areas! There is a lot of grain in photos especially in the 20.7MP shots but it does brings some nice colour reproduction too!

These two camera are right now the best you can get in a flagship and not just for posting on social media but also for the photographers in you as you get a lot of settings and effects to play with on both the devices and no matter what which one you choose, you will get an awesome camera giving you crisp and vibrant photos! However in low light, i wish it to be better!

TO SUM UP...

To sum up, both phones are great performers whether it is gaming, camera, battery life or giving you the best display quality! We can't really decide the winner but if i were to choose one, it will the sony xperia Z2 with a better built and UI!
