Phonesoldier Talks: Tech Roundup #2.

Last two-three days were pretty tight as a lot of things got leaked and revealed in the technology world including news about Moto X+1, Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom and much more! So let's get right into it and find out what's going on in the technology world from the last couple of days in this latest edition of Phonesoldier Talks: Tech roundup!

Google Leaks reveals coming refresh for Android app icons!

A few days back, a leak revealed a refreshment in Google's android apps about which i tweeted too on my twitter account and it showed some pretty unique changes in the icons of the google's android apps! Take a look!

The leaked screenshot above reveals many such icon changes, with the overall themes being flatter graphics, simpler designs, and taking more cues from Google’s web services. For instance, note how the Gmail icon above is a very similar “closed” design to what you see with the Gmail website, and not the “open” style we have now on Android. Google Maps drops its Google “g,” the Play Store coloring loses its warm tones, and Google appears to have gone a little nuts with shadows, adding them to YouTube, Google+, and Hangouts.
While I do appreciate this change a lot as it was necessary for the icons to get a new makeover but you tell me what you think in the comments section!

HTC's Sense 6 update coming to HTC one M7!

The new HTC one M8 introduced us to the latest Sense 6 update that brought some significant changes to the HTC's already launched sense 5! While we do get this update with the HTC one M8, what about the old M7 users?

Right before the M8 debuted,I heard a rumor attempting to outline HTC’s strategy for updating current phones with Sense 6. According to that document, the original One M7 might see its update land in either May or June. Then at the One M8 launch itself, HTC confirmed plans for these Sense 6 updates, but without nailing down a precise timetable. Well, today I've finally got something concrete to go on, with a tweet from HTC America’s Jason Mackenzie.
According to Mackenzie, this Sense 6 update for last year’s One “will push to current HTC One users by end of May.”
Considering June was in the running before, I will take this as good news, and hearing it come from HTC America in particular has us optimistic that the manufacturer is planning far enough ahead to account for delays with carrier certification. Hopefully, the May window really will represent when the software becomes available to users, and not just when HTC has passed the code on to the networks for them to begin their own tests.
Sense 6 updates for the One Max and Mini should turn up a little later, as we start getting into summer.

More Nokia code names leaked!
Nokia just introduced its latest batch of Windows Phone modelsa couple weeks back at the Microsoft Build event, welcoming the first of its models that will ship running Windows Phone 8.1. The Lumia 630/635 I’ve been following since I first heard its codename Moneypenny back in November of last year. Now that it’s official, what are we to look forward to from Nokia next? As luck would have it, a crop of new codenames has arrived fresh off the leak wagon, and from the look of things Nokia is up to its old habits.
According to @evleaks, new Nokia codenames include Ara, Leo, Moonraker, Onyx, Peridot, Superman, Tesla, and Vantage are leaked!
Moonraker is the clearest of the “Bond series” codenames (Moneypenny, Goldfinger) up there, but we’d wager that Vantage counts as well, referencing the Aston Martin vehicle. Onyx and Peridot align with earlier codename Spinel, and Leo fits with names we’ve heard before like Orion and Pegasus. Granted, none of this does much to tell us just what sort of hardware we’re looking at, but at least Nokia’s being consistent with its naming patterns.
What I am hoping for is a nice mid budget windows phone 8.1 running device that can become the successor for the Nokia lumia 720!

Leather options for the Moto X+1 rumored!
So a few days, we were introduced to the leak that the successor of the Motorola's flagship is coming that can be named Moto X+1 and right after that we got the leak of the back panel options going to be available for the particular device!
        evleaks-x1colors
According to this, the Moto X+1 will offer shoppers choices between 17 colored backplate options, another four wooden selections available, and four all-new leather backs: black, red, blue, and grey. It’s interesting to see that last option spelled as it is rather than the “gray” preferred in the US, but that may simply be a consequence of Motorola’s new ownership.
This leak is also accompanied by the note that these options are specifically for the X+1. That’s important because that initial rumor about leather backs didn’t mention the phone itself at all, and we had to consider the possibility that maybe Motorola might bring leather to the existing Moto X. Granted, this new leak doesn’t specifically dismiss that possibility, but at least now leather is being positively associated with the Moto X+1.
We’ve still got more questions; will this be real honest-to-goodness leather, or something more like Naugahyde? Certainly, not the hard plastic of Galaxy faux-leather phones (I wish), but maybe a fabric-based synthetic leather? We’d love for it to be real, so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.
Motorola never disappoints when it comes to uniqueness in their phones and I hope for the best for Moto X+1!

Plastic HTC one M8 rumored to be a more affordable option!
A recent leak showed that a plastic version of the latest HTC one M8 might be in the works and can launch at a more affordable price! This might be the case of as we saw in the Iphone 5C but with the latest specs!

Word out of Taiwan is that a plastic M8 could launch as soon as next month. It doesn’t sound like we’re necessarily talking about the next Butterfly (though that may ultimately be the case, especially if we’re losing something in the translation here) or even a new Desire, but a phone that would be positioned directly as a more affordable alternative to the metal One M8 itself.
It’s unclear the full extent of the changes we’re looking at here, and this presumably would go beyond swapping metal for plastic to also change a few internal components. Maybe the Duo Camera wouldn’t make the cut (I hope it does)? All I've heard is that this new plastic M8 would be “of different quality” than the phone we know today.
Our concerns about hardware downgrades are reinforced by the rumored price: what works out to a little under $500. Shaving $150 to $200 off the phone’s existing price tag may require a little more than just swapping in this plastic shell, but the full extent of possible changes currently eludes us.

Galaxy S5 Zoom teased to launch on April 29 as Galaxy K!
With the “kapture the moment” tagline (straight out of a Mortal Kombat game), it’s pretty clear we’re talking about something to do with cameras, and in the light of that previous mention that the GS5 Zoom would instead be a Galaxy K device, I am pretty darn confident that’s what we’re talking about here.
In theory, this new support for that Galaxy K name should also have us becoming a little more willing to accept the image that arrived alongside it, but my concerns remain; we’re going to need a tad more confirmation before we’re totally buying-in to that design. Conveniently enough, we won’t have long to wait before this all goes official and we get our answers, with Samsung’s April 29 launch event just over two weeks away.

Something about Ipads!
With all the rumors tilted towards the next-generation iPhone, I've been wondering exactly what will Apple bring to the table for its iPad line-up? Apple has historically launched new iPad models during springtime, but it seems that it won’t be the case this year. The iPad Air is barely in its first generation, so it would be safe to judge that Apple will retain a lot of the design elements of this device going forward, and improve on some software or hardware capabilities.
Reports from credible sources claim that Apple will retain the design of the current-generation iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display, and focus on boosting its hardware. We were surprised that Apple decided not to launch the previous-generation models with Touch ID, but the new reports claim that these new iPad models will include the technology. The report also claims that the iPad line-up will finally see a boost in the camera, going to 8 megapixels this time, something long overdue since the launch of the iPad 2 in 2011. The other logical step is for this device to include Apple’s new A8 chip, and the report claims that this will happen.
Apparently these devices will be ready for launch in Q3/2014, much earlier than the launch of the current-generation models, but that the iPad mini with Retina Display might see a launch in limited quantities as it has not wowed Apple in sales this year. Those of you waiting for a 12.9-inch iPad will have to wait until 2015 though, as the report claims that there is more to be done in that department.

Battle of the best low end devices- Nokia X vs Lumia 520!

Before the release of the Nokia X, Lumia 520 was really popular when it came to buying a phone below 10k because basically no one had any choice! But after the release of the Nokia X, the game was changed and customers started to confuse between these two! So let us find which one is the best when it comes to low end in this head to head comparison!

DESIGN

One of the high points of the Nokia Lumia 520 is the design. That's a hallmark of Nokia's Windows Phones: the entire range is interesting to look at, nice to hold and isn't afraid to use colour.
Naturally the Lumia 520 isn't quite as sophisticated in design as the other models higher up the range. There's no beautifully curved edge to the display or unibody design, but even at this budget end of the Lumia line, it feels nice to hold and of good build quality.

A unibody design in a range of bright colours is status quo at Nokia at the moment and the Nokia X trio are almost identical to the firm's latest range of Asha smartphones.

We can't really complaint in design given the price and what nokia is offering! But when we have to choose a winner, i would go with the lumia 520 with much more premium feel!

DISPLAY

The display on both the devices as you would expect is average and not that great to be frank!

The Nokia X rocks a IPS LCD 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches (~233 ppi pixel density) display which is okay i would say indoors and you would feel a little left out outdoors!

On the other hand, The lumia 520 also has the same screen that is IPS LCD 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches (~233 ppi pixel density) that is basically the same in every aspect!

The Edge here actually goes to the Nokia lumia 520 and i will tell why, it is because the lumia 520 supports multitouch while the Nokia X supports only two fingers at a time that is really annoying while playing games like fruit ninja or any other that requires multitouch!

STORAGE

Nokia X has a 4gb internal memory that is expendable to 32gb via micro SD card while the lumia 520 includes a 8gb internal memory that is expendable to 64gb via micro SD card!

So the Nokia lumia 520 wins here too with twice storage as the nokia x!

SOFTWARE

Software is i think is the only area where people are most confused as these two are really different in the software side!

The Nokia X comes with android 4.1.2 operating system and on top of that Nokia's highly customized skin that is the mixture of windows phone live tiles and Asha OS fastlane! The skin Nokia is not that great as you can't multitask and is  a little sluggish! The Skin on Nokia X requires a lot of power to run perfectly and i think Nokia XL will do much more good in this field! Nokia X as i used lags and takes a couple of seconds to open applications!

The Nokia Lumia 520 runs windows phone 8 which will be updated to windows phone 8.1! The Lumia 520 runs much more smoother than the nokia x in day to day usage! As I have always said, windows phone requires very little processing and hence will run lag free on low end devices!

So I would go with the Nokia lumia 520 here too as it is much more soothing to use it than nokia X!
Windows phone has now almost 250000 apps that is incredible as i see it but if you really want android, then go for nokia x!

PERFORMANCE

Nokia X runs on Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play that is Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A5 assisted with 512 RAM and Adreno 203! As you would think after these specs that these are not the specs that are required for android but Nokia X is not that bad when you use it! It is decent and runs okay if you are not a heavy user!

The Nokia lumia 520 surprising runs on Qualcomm MSM8227 1ghz dual core assisted with 512 RAM and Adreno 305 that is slightly better than the nokia x!

So better processor and lighter operating system! You know the winner, lumia 520! Nokia X is little bit less faster than the lumia 520 and multi tasking! Opening and closing of applications is better on the lumia 520!

CAMERA

Nokia Lumia 520 has a 5mp autofocus that is capable of recording videos up to 720p!

The nokia x rocks a 3mp manual focus camera that is capable of recording videos up to 480p!

The camera quality is way better on the nokia lumia 520! Both the cameras lag a secondary camera and flash!

The camera app is also better on the nokia lumia 520 with the nokia camera that lets control your phone's camera in a lot professional way than the nokia x!

BATTERY LIFE

Battery life has been always a strong point in the low end devices of nokia and these two are no exceptions!

The nokia lumia 520 consists of a remomable 1430 mAH battery that capable of giving you a full day on heavy usage!

While the Nokia X has a 1500mAh that is sightly better than the Lumia 520 in day to day usage!

So finally nokia x wins in the battery life! There is not much of a difference but still the nokia x is better!

TO SUM UP..

The Nokia lumia 520 as you read is better in every aspect except the battery life! So I would go with nokia lumia 520 because i don't really lags in day to day usage and it is 1K cheaper too but if you really want android apps, then go for the nokia x or wait for the nokia xl! Because you are not really going to like when your phone will be slow!

Battle of the best mid range phablets- Nokia Lumia 1320 vs Sony Xperia T2 Ultra!

Phablets are really trending nowadays and many customers look for a nice and comfortable tablet in mid range price bracket and there are some decent options available including lumia 1320, xperia t2 Ultra, grand 2 and many more! But it is really hard to choose one, so i am here to tell which is the best mid range phablet that will be a head to head comparision between the nokia lumia 1320 and the sony xperia t2 Ultra! Grand 2 is not that capable and lags too much so we are not going to include that! So let us begin!

DESIGN.

Nokia has been a little unimaginative with the looks of Lumia 1320. Basically, it looks like an oversized Lumia 625. It has the same curvy body as Lumia 625 and seems merely bigger in size; if you looked at the two models from afar, you will probably not be able to tell the two apart.
The big screen makes the phablet too big to handle. Though the curved body helps the handset slip into the pocket easily, it is a little difficult to hold because of the considerable width (3.4-inch). It is quite heavy too, weighing over 200gram.

T2 Ultra follows the same design pattern that Sony is using in high-end range of Z smartphones. It is a sleek, slim and good looking device. The difference between T2 Ultra and other high-end Sony smartphones is the build material. The high-end devices like Xperia Z1 use metal body and a glass back cover. T2 Ultra has a plastic shell, albeit the one that is so glossy that it looks like glass. But the build quality and finishing is top notch. There are no loose parts and the device doesn't look or feel cheap. Another difference is that unlike high-end Xperia devices, T2 Ultra doesn't have water or dust resistant body.
T2 Ultra is just 7.7mm thick and weighs little over 170 grams. For a phablet, these figures are very impressive. The slim and sleek design makes using T2 Ultra easier even though it is a large device.

The winner here is actually and surprisingly the xperia t2 ultra with its much comfortable and a little less heavier and good looking design!

DISPLAY.

The display on actually both the phones is the same that is 720p resolution with the same pixel density! The edge here actually goes to the lumia 1320 with its clear black display with really nice outdoor visibility and colour reproduction! The screen of the xperia t2 ultra is actually really reflective and has bad outdoor visibility and looks really dull!
So the winner here is the nokia lumia 1320!

SOFTWARE.

The xperia t2 ultra runs the android jellybean 4.3 with the sony's custom UI whereas the nokia lumia 1320 runs on windows phone 8 GDR3 update!
The edge here goes to the lumia 1320 as the software of the lumia 1320 makes much more use of the 6inch screen and the live tiles look really eye catchy and vibrant!
Software updates will most probably come first the nokia lumia 1320 and t2 ultra will lag behind in android updates!
The winner here is the lumia 1320 which gives you a much smoother experience of the software!

CAMERA.

When we talk about the camera, you would probably think it is the nokia phone but the case here is totally different!
The 13MP camera of the sony xperia t2 ultra smashes the 5MP camera of the nokia lumia 1320!
The camera on the nokia lumia 1320 performs under average and the camera on the sony xperia t2 ultra performs decent!
Don't expect good quality photos from the xperia t2 ultra as they are not that great in spite of the 13mp shooter!
So the winner in this category is the sony xperia t2 ultra!

BATTERY LIFE.

When we talk about the battery life in this case, it is really great on both the phones! The nokia lumia 1320 comprises of a 3400mAH non removable bettery whereas the xperia t2 ultra has a non removable 3000mAH battery!
Both the batteries are fantastic and can run for about 2 days on moderate usage! But we have to decide a winner and it is the nokia lumia 1320!
The nokia lumia 1320 can run a little more longer even if you turn the brightness to maximum!

PERFORMANCE.

Performance is actually average on both!
The nokia lumia 1320 is Powered by the dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 chipset with 1GB RAM and the xperia t2 ultra is powered by Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. If you are interested, it is a variant of MSM8228 processor. The four cores of the processor use A7 ARM architecture, which is meant to be used in mainstream devices. The cores run at 1.4GHz. T2 Ultra has 1GB RAM!
When we look at the specifications, the xperia t2 ultra is a clear winner but we use it, the case is opposite actually!
The android operating system requires a much more high processing unit to run smoothly whereas windows phone can run perfectly on dual cores! So you are going to face some lags on the sony xperia t2 ultra and on the nokia lumia 1320, they are absouletly no lags at all!
Gaming is decent on both the phones, but when you compare them head to head, it is the nokia lumia 1320 that performs much more faster!
So, the winner here is the nokia lumia 1320 with a lag free experience!

TO SUM UP..

Both the phones are mid budget phones and are average in every aspect! But i would actually prefer the nokia lumia 1320 with a much more capable enrivonment and a little cheaper too! Sony xperia t2 ultra is right now a little over priced for what it is offering! If you really want a android in that range, i would suggest to increase your budget and go for the lg g pro!
