Nokia Lumia 930, the key for nokia to enter the flagship market?

Windows phone is already struggling with the market share and most of its market share lies in the budget smartphones like the nokia lumia 520!

Windows phone is not really popular in the flagship market as most people avoid because of the lack of apps! but another reason for that i think was there isn't any perfect flagship by nokia or htc or any other windows phone manufacturer! Sure, there is lumia 1020 or the lumia 1520 but these both are really not the perfect as the lumia 1020 is really bulky and heavy and lumia 1520 is really big and heavy too!

But this situation will be changed after the launch of the nokia lumia 930 which comprises the best specs and the best design! How? let's find out by looking at its strong points that could make it a worthy rival!

Hands on: Nokia Lumia 930 review

DESIGN AND INTERNALS

      Nokia Lumia 930 review

First off is the design and the built quality!Nokia has been always great in the design and built quality of phones and the nokia lumia 930 is no exception!

        Nokia Lumia 930 review

The nokia lumia 930 fits perfectly in hands and is a pleasure to hold with its poly carbonate design and good feel makes it really a stand out from the crowd and there's no risk of slipping it from the hands which you find on the phones with aluminium design and it is not the cheap plastic you see in Samsung or any other plastic phones like the iPhone 5c! So in design it is going to be a tough competition for others!

Nokia has also passed on microSD support instead relying on 32GB of internal storage and 7GB of free Microsoft OneDrive cloud space. That should be more than enough for most users, but there's still a strong contingent who like the microSD option, myself included.

DISPLAY

Fire up the Nokia Lumia 930 and you'll be greeted by the impressive 1920 x 1080 OLED display which is suitably bright with a high level of colour reproduction!

       Nokia Lumia 930 review

The screen is awesome just like we saw on the nokia lumia 1520!

The 5inch display is perfect and is not big like the nokia lumia 1520! So no problem there and has great outdoor visibility as always we see in nokia phones!

PROCESSOR AND PROCESSING...

When we talk about processor, the nokia lumia 930 comes with the
same processor as we saw in the lumia 1520 that is a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, a decent offering but slightly behind the times as the new trio of Android flagships all sport the newer 801 chip.
That's not a huge issue as Windows Phone is less power hungry, and with 2GB of RAM also inside I found the Lumia 930 was exceptionally fast and smooth.
I had no trouble moving around the live tiles and scrolling through the application list, and apps opened promptly.
The processor is really faster as you would except and would never disappoint while playing any high ends like asphalt 8 or nova 3!

CAMERA

Nokia prides itself on its smartphone camera technology and the Lumia 930 continues that trend with a 20MP Pureview snapper on the rear with dual LED flash, OIS (optical image stabilisation) and Carl Zeiss lens.

Nokia Lumia 930 review

You'll also find the Nokia camera application which has a simple user interface for those who just want a point and shoot offering, but there are professional controls available too.
Just slide the on-screen shutter key to the left and a whole series of settings including ISO, white balance and exposure will appear allowing you to fine tune your image capturing.
As well as recording full HD video the Lumia 930 also comes equipped with four microphones for what Nokia says provides an "immersive video experience and rich recording with surround sound." I'll be sure to put this to the test in the in-depth review.
There's a front facing 2MP camera on the Nokia Lumia 930 for all those selfies and Skype calls you'll be making on the handset too.
Camera quality is actually almost the same as on the nokia lumia 1520!

BATTERY LIFE

Battery life has been always a strong point for nokia and nokia lumia 930 doesn't fails too!
There's a non-removable 2420mAh battery housed inside the Lumia 930's aluminium frame and Nokia claims it's capable of 18 hours standby, nine hours of video playback or 75 hours of music playback.
It looks a bit small but it is perfectly capable of getting you a battery life of almost two days!

TO SUM UP...

The Lumia 930 is the most complete Windows Phone to date. It's the first to properly challenge the flagship might of Android and iOS with its impressive design, new Windows Phone 8.1 software and all round decent specs.
I think it is going to be a worthy rival to the existing flagships, for those who have been thinking to buy the perfect windows phone will be buying this with no second thoughts at all!

Things to look out for before buying a new phone!

6:55 PM Posted by phonesoldier , , , No comments
Smartphone sales are increasing at a tremendous rate this days and a lot of people are tricked by smartphone companies by false advertising and useless features! Some claim to have top notch specs but in reality when you use them, you face lags and you get disappointed by your phone! So how should you buy a smartphone and what things you should keep in mind before doing so? I am here to guide you through that so you get a better idea on how should you buy a new smartphone by pointing the most important things to look out for before buying a new phone!

IS YOUR PHONE FUTURE PROOF?

Usually after buying a new phone, you start asking companies for updates and some of them listen and some of them don't and you are stuck with the outdated operating system for approx two years! But there's a solution to this problem that is buying a phone that is future proof already and will receive updates no matter what! Some of the brands that provide updates on time are Motorola, google, nokia , htc,Sony, LG and Samsung! But there is another problem here, the low cost phones of lg or samsung do not receive updates on time almost never and when you look at low cost, you should probably opt for another company! Indian brands almost never provide on time updates and customers always complaint about this and you should that's why avoid these brands!

PHONE SHOULD HAVE THE VALUE FOR MONEY TAG!

Now what i mean by this is that phone should have the features that it deserves in that price range! Companies like LG,Samsung and even HTC usually fool you in low cost phones by giving non value specs and you should never buy these phones! Better opt for a Indian brand! I wrote an article a few weeks back pointing the best value for money phones in different range, you can check that out here!

HOW IS THE BATTERY?

Battery is one of the most important factor of a smartphone and that should be good no matter what! How are you going to call your phone a mobile if the battery is not good and you have to charge it every 8 hours! So, you should always look out for a good battery life in a smartphone! I will soon write an article about phones with the best battery life, so stay tuned for that! Battery is usually great in nokia phones,Motorola phones, Samsung batteries are nice too, LG is great and even the HTC! Indian brands and Sony  fall back here with not so much great battery life!

RECEPTION IS GOOD OR NOT?

Reception of a phone is always a cconcern and you usually know about it after buying a phone but you should next keep in mind to buy a phone with a good reception! Phones like Nokia and almost all provide great reception! Indian brands , exceptionally moto g's reception are not that great! It is ok but if you talk a lot, you might wanna take a look at a different phone!

OUTDOOR VISIBILITY!

If you remain outdoors a lot, you should probably remain active about this function and buy the phone with the best outdoor visibility! Flagships always have a great outdoor visibility but when it comes to low cost, phones with a good resolution has a great outdoor visibility! If you wanna know more about screens of smartphones, you should check this article i wrote from here!

THE MAIN BATTLE- PROCESSOR VS OPERATING SYSTEM!

This is the most concerning point that you should check or ask any tech expert before buying a new phone! This actually means that which the processor the phone runs on which operating system! The thing is different operating systems require different processors to run like the windows phone can or IOS can run on dual cores but the android operating system needs high processing system to run lag free! In Android, there are sub-points to look out for that is the skins that mobile manufactures put in!
Skins like touchwiz from sansung or the skin from lg require very high processing and will lag on low budget!

SCREEN SIZE VS PIXELS!

It's not always that screen pixels should be higher for the screen to look good, Concept of this is that for screen sizes around 4 inch, if the puxels are low then, it is no problem but if the screen size is larger, pixels are noticable and should be hihger in order for the screen to look good! Example WVGA screens will look good on sizes around 4inch but if you extend to higher screen sizes, it is going to look awful! Like wise screen of moto g that is 720p looks gorgeous but it is not that great on the lumia 1320! Another example is lumia 620 and lumia 625 whose screens are similar but it looks good on the lumia 620 with 3.8 inches but looks bad on the lumia 625!

SO NEXT TIME WHEN YOU WANT TO BUY A NEW PHONE, KEEP THIS POINTS IN MIND AND BUY  THE BEST PHONE!

Phonesoldier Talks: 2014,The Era of the price tag of 50k+!

As we are seeing, everyday almost a new smartphone is launching with different goals and different features but in this race, the one thing that gets squashed is the customer! With the increase in the competition of smartphones, manufactures are increasing the price at a freakishly high level that one can't even think of!
I am actually talking about the price tag of 50k+ of smartphones these days! Each and every flagship we see launching in 2014 whether it is HTC's m8 or samsung galaxy s5 and even the sony xperia z2 which will most probably launch with this price tag too! So what is the way to deal with this problem? Let us find out!

The price tag of 50k+ was first brought by apple's iphone whose 32gb or 64gb variant was priced heavily above 50k! This was followed by the, iphone 5, iphone 5c and latest obviously iphone 5s!

As you know in the smartphone world, nothing remains unique for a long time, so other comapnies started to do the same beginning with the samsung galaxy note 3, nokia lumia 1020( intial price tag was 50k) etc!

So, if you are not rich and still want to experience the latest technology, you don't have any choice except selling your bike! But there is another and much more simpler way that is live in the previous generation!

That;s right, smartphone prices always go down after the new flagship is launched like the samsung galaxy s4 which is now available at 29k or the nokia lumia 1020 which is available at 37k! This things always happen to the latest flagship which will eventually get somewhat old and then the prices will be dropped!
Like i am using the last year's htc one and i love it! The reasons i love it is that it is fast, design is nice(way better than latest flagships including samsung galaxy s5) and feels great! But some people just mistake it by outdated which it is not! It is running the latest android 4.4.2!

Remember the old times when you used a phone for like 3-4 years and now after a year, you start disliking your phone and eventually buy a new phone! Instead you could buy a phone which is future proof like a google nexus which will not get outdated even after 2 years or a htc which works like a charm! If you are going to buy a samsung phone or a sony, you are going to face these problems which you should not!

So to avoid the price tag of 50k, just buy the last generation which is future proof or wait for the latest flagship's rates to cool down! If you are going to buy the latest flagship at 50k, companies will feel that you are ok with this price and eventually increase it at some point which is just severe insanity! I can't even think about spending half a lac for a phone and you shouldn't too! So spread this article and create awareness in others too!

SO I GUESS THAT'S IT FOR THIS TIME! HOPE YOU LIKED IT!

Battle of the best androids- Moto X vs Nexus 5!

A few days back, the Moto X was launched in India and that resulted in people of twitter started comparing it with the nexus 5 already available because there is not that much price difference between these two but the moto x is still cheaper than the nexus 5 by 6k and actually i believe that's a big pro! But we are going to compare these two face to face with no price issues at all and see which is better! I did an article where the moto x was a better value for money phone, you can check that out here but we are going to see who is actually the best neglecting the price!

DESIGN.

Moto x has a really subtle, compact and handsome design for a phone with a rubberized back and is curved a little so that it fits very comfortably in hands! On the other hand, nexus 5 is a little thicker with matt finish back and is absolutely flat! This phone is actually really light and feels solid at the same time, that's a good thing! The moto x comes in a lot more color options including wooden, blue etc while the nexus 5 is limited to black and white! The design of both phones are remarkably really good but i am going to give a slight edge to the moto x because of its rounded shape that feels better than the flat body of the nexus 5!

DISPLAY.

The moto x has a 4.7inch 720p AMOLED ( 312 ppi pixel density) display which looks really nice and has great outdoor visibillity! While on the nexus 5, we have a 5inch 1080p LCD (445 ppi pixel density) display which is ultra sharp and way better than the moto x! So the nexus 5 wins here!

PERFORMANCE.

When it comes to performance, you will notice absolutely no lags in both the phones but when you compare them head to head, there's a different result!

The moto x rocks a Moto X8 chip consisting 8 cores including a 1.7ghz dual core snapdragon s4 pro processor and adreno 320 assisted with 2 more cores for voice and language recognition system! The dual core sounds pretty bad but the performance is really good and you should not underestimate it on that!
The nexus 5 on the other hand consists of a 2.3ghz quad core processor and adreno 330 which performs like a beast! The winner in this category no doubt the nexus 5! I am not saying that the moto x is bad but when you compare both the phones together, nexus 5 is a clear winner!

SOFTWARE.

On the software side, there's not much difference between these two! The Moto x runs on near pure andoid running android 4.4.2 and nexus 5 runs on pure android with the same android version!
When we talk about future updates, the nexus 5 gets a slight benefit and will receive updates a slight earlier than the moto x!

CAMERA.

The camera of both the phones are not really good and both are average performers!
But still we will decide a winner! Moto x consists of a 10MP lens with a single LED and can record videos up to 1080p! The nexus 5 has a 8MP shooter with single LED and can record videos up to 1080p!
When we talk about quality, the nexus 5 takes the points, don't get me wrong, i know there are more pixels on the moto x but the quality is still better on the nexus 5! But when we talk about shutter speed, the camera on the moto x is way faster than the nexus 5!
As I said before the quality is average and non satisfactory on both and if you love taking photographs from your phone, you should probably consider something else!

ADDITIONAL FEATURES.

Now when we talk about additional features, the moto x rules here with the touch less controls and active display! The only thing nexus 5 can do is reply with the call of "ok google" only when it is turned on! The one feature that you get on the nexus 5 is the wireless charging which is pretty helpful at times! But still the  moto x wins here!

BATTERY LIFE.

Now by reading all these stuff, you probably be wondering hows the battery life then?
There's not really difference in size as the moto x consists of a 2200 mAh battery and the nexus 5 has a 2300 mAh battery! By looking at the sizes, you would probably think, the nexus 5 will be better but i should stop you right there as the moto x wins here with much higher battery life! On moderate usage, moto x without any problem will get you a day or even more if you are a light user but on the nexus 5, you can hardly get a day out of it!

TO SUM UP..

Both the phones are awesome in their own fields, the moto x is a phone that can impress at lot more levels other than playing high end games like active display, touchless controls or even the battery life! But if you want the top notch specs and remain ahead in android updates, go for the nexus 5!
My personal choice? My personal choice will be the moto x with better features and battery life! Nexus 5 is not bad but there are some quarks that concern me and that's why my recommendation will be the moto x!

So that's it for today's article! HOPE YOU LIKED IT!

Phonesoldier talks: tech roundup #1

So this is a new series of articles I am beginning that will important technology news from the past couple of days and I will share my views on it! So this is phonesoldier talks: tech roundup #1!

1. Twitter kills-off #music app

Less than a year ago, back in mid-April 2013, we saw Twitter introduce the world to its Twitter #music app for iOS.  It took advantage of iTunes to offer users previews of any songs they ran across, and by tying into an account with a streaming provider like Spotify, you could even pull up full tracks. Twitter talked about its big plans, like making #music available in additional countries and coming out with an Android version… and that’s pretty much the last I ever heard of it. Apparently I was not the only one who lost interest in the service, as today Twitter announced the end of #music.

Twitter is pulling the #music app from Apple’s App Store today, and if you already have it installed, it will stop functioning as of April 18 – which I am sure is no coincidence that it would also be the app’s one-year birthday.

The company says that it will “continue to experiment with new ways to bring you great content based on the music activity we see every day on Twitter,” but has not given any indication that another stand-alone would be part of those plans; if we do ever see something like #music again, it seems likely that it might be baked right in to the main Twitter app itself.

2. Google Now may auto-suggest Calendar events based on your conversations

Google already takes advantage of the connections between all the services it offers to provide its users some convenient, time-saving tools. For instance, when you get a message in Gmail that mentions a time or date, Google automatically detects that text, underlines it, and gives you a quick way to add the event directly to your Google Calendar. From the looks of things, though, Google may be about to take this kind of automated system and really run with it, letting Google Now detect events in conversations you have from sources beyond just Gmail, and then suggest you add them to your Calendar.

It’s not clear exactly what Google Now would scan in order to make these inferences, but the presumption is that besides Gmail, we’d also be looking at Hangouts, including IMs and maybe even text messages. There’s also no telling when the feature might go live (assuming it actually does), but with some of the framework in place already, this could very well crop up in the next release or two.

8.9-inch Google Nexus tablet might be in the works

There are recently a lot of rumors regarding the release of a new nexus tablet that might be bigger than its predecessor scaling around 9inch (8.9 inch more precisely), this might be a good thing as the nexus 7 we were using was pretty small and was not enough of giving the experience that was required in terms of size! The expectation is that this will be a lower volume product, carrying a premium price tag to support the specifications”, claims the report, which also mentions “high-performance” specifications. Google’s Nexus line-up isn’t known to carry premium price tags, but the rumors about this device talk about a higher than $299 price tag; HTC might be the manufacturer, according to the report!

SO this is actually good in my view as i find the old nexus pretty small!

Windows Phone 8.1 hinted on Microsoft’s website

The next iteration of Windows Phone, codenamed Blue, and with version number 8.1, is expected to be unveiled at the Build event happening soon. While many of its upcoming features have been leaked online, rumored, or unofficially unveiled with a lot of videos and tutorials, there might still be some surprises waiting for us.
Heading over to the source image , you will land on the official Windows Phone page . At the top left, you can choose to see Windows Phone 8, or Windows Phone 8.1 features. Of course, the Windows Phone 8.1 link will take you to an error page. Nothing specific to see there at the moment, but we’re guessing that the page will be populated at the beginning of April, after Microsoft’s Build event, where the platform is expected to see the light of day.

Nokia’s latest Lumias may launch earlier than expected

When it comes to Windows Phone news, as well as news of the latest Lumia smartphones from Nokia, there are two dates that i am keeping in mind: April 2, and April 19. The former is when Microsoft’s Build conference gets underway this year, and sometime during the event (which runs though April 4), we’re expecting Microsoft to make a big Windows Phone 8.1 announcement that all are excited the most about. The latter date is one we’ve heard rumored for a Nokia event, where it would presumably introduce its first native WP8.1 handsets which i tweeted a few days back. Now, however, it seems that those new Lumias may make their first public appearance a little earlier, with rumors claiming that a pair of handsets will debut at Build itself.
Supposedly, Nokia would introduce the Lumia 630 and Lumia 930 at Build. We assume that the mention of the 630 here also includes the 635, as we’re expecting only minor differences between the two. While the 630 sounds relatively middle-of-the-road, the 930 could be a real treat, and we’ve seen it attached to specs like a 4.5-inch 1080p screen.
Beyond these two, I also heard once again about the device codenamed Goldfinger. . While Goldfinger wouldn’t join the 630 and 930 next month, it’s reportedly still in the works, though its launch timeframe may have been pushed back.

Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch rumored to have sapphire face

Long before anyone was talking about bringing the protection of synthetic sapphire glass to smartphone screens, the material was being used to protect the faces of high-end watches; considering how constantly exposed to the threat of damage a watch can be, using a resilient substance like sapphire made a lot of sense. But will sapphire make the transition from old “dumb” watches to also keep this latest generation of smartwatches looking good as new? That’s the possibility I am considering today, upon hearing that Motorla’s upcoming Android Wear-powered Moto 360 may feature just such a sapphire crystal.

Apple looking to fix its iPhone battery issues with new patent

This is actually the most important news in the past couple of days as the battery problem is really a big flaw for which most of the users don't appreciate about! At a time when batteries keep getting bigger and bigger, you’d think that Apple would lead this trend since the biggest complaint that all iPhone users share, is their hatred for its battery life. The irony is that Apple has only grown the iPhone’s battery 12% in the last seven years, when compared to Samsung which has almost tripled it. Apple clearly has a problem to fix, and a new patent sheds some light into where it’ll focus on next.
This patent will allow the iphone to automatically adjust the battery according the charging periods and usage! That's pretty cool!

That's it for this time, there are other news too but i thought these were the most important!

Why should you buy the Moto X at 24k!

9:33 PM Posted by phonesoldier , , , , , 2 comments
Moto X just launched in India, and I am getting a bundle of questions of whether should I buy this phone after 6 months of its release or not? Nexus 5 is better or not? Well the answer apparently is yes! And I will explain you why! Let us begin!

First reason for which you should buy the Moto x according to me is the screen! I know it is just 720p but you won't notice the difference as it is utterly beautiful and gorgeous and the size is perfect too!

Second  is the curved design! The design of this phone actually fits in your hand when you are holding it! And it is really comfortable when you want to use your phone for longer period of time! It is subtle, light and feels truly natural because of the rubbery back!

Third and one of the major reasons I am actually ditching my nexus 5 for it is the TOUCHLESS CONTROLS! These features are the most unique thing in this device and the coolest obviously! You can just speak to your phone without even unlocking it or picking it up in hands! You should take a look them at least if you haven't!

Fourth is the quick action for opening up the camera! This feature comes really handy when you wanna just click the photo without any delay!  You just shake your phone and there's your camera!

Fifth is the active notifications! You will be getting notifications when your phone is locked and by just swiping up, you could see that message or anything! It is really helpful if you wanna just see it without grabbing your phone and unlocking it! It is kind of like Nokia's glance screen but on the Moto X, you could actually see what notification you got!

Sixth is the battery life! It is just a compact battery of 2200 mAh but it can run more than any other flagship you could get right now! I actually got a full day on heavy usage and it Doesn't even heat up during continuous usage! You have to really use this phone to kill the battery in a day! If you are a moderate user, you might get two days!
Seventh is the price! You cannot literally get a phone this good with stuff like pure android, Motorola's trust, touchless controls, a fast performing phone and many more! Sure there is nexus 5 with better processor but it is 6k costlier and there is actually nothing unique in that phone that will make you go like WOW!

So that was it for this article! Hope you liked it!

Why Android still holds about 80% of market share!

1:51 PM Posted by phonesoldier , , , , No comments
Android has been developing a lot since it was launched back in 2008 but even after release of ios 7 or wp8 , there is absolutely no effect on its market share! Windows phone has been developing too but it only took some percentage of the ios market share, that affected ios a lot but android still stands straight! Why is it? A lot of people ask that why is android still on the top even after the release of other beautiful yet light and faster operating systems? The answer lies within!
The more customization on android is actually the first reason that most people like it and that is not available on IOS or wp8! But that should not create this much market share gap, or will it? i guess not! Some people say there are more apps on android than ios or wp, I agree with wp but they are totally wrong about IOS! So is there just one reason that why android is so much popular? Well, there's something else too! That is, the FLEXIBILITY! U can make android whatever you want in any manner, that's the most important reason i guess! I am not talking about customization again, I am talking about the openness of android that includes first of all sharing like Bluetooth sharing! Another reason is the locking options like face lock, pattern lock and much more! OTG is another reason why people love android, u could transfer your data directly to your device without connecting it to a PC!
File manager on android allows you to view your content in a more efficient way and you can unzip or zip any file directly on your device! Third party keyboards come in next as they allow you to type in a more mannered way or you could just use it to avoid the inbuilt keyboard!
Android is a form of google and that's another reason why people opt for it that is the google services that you get inbuilt! IOS lets you do that too but not the same or i would say in a more integrated way!
When it comes to the app store, it is massive like IOS but the plus point in android case is you get more free applications when compared to IOS or you could just sideload them if they are paid!

Multiple user accounts that came in android 4.3 was really a great way to experience PC capabilities on a mobile device, sure it cannot replace PC but it works in some cases!
Lastly i would just say that Android is a more open platform than any other mobile OS but if u don't mess with your device everyday,  u could live with IOS or windows phone too!
That's it for this article! thank you for reading! comments are always welcome!
