In one of my comparisons, I declared the Nokia lumia 1320 as the best mid range phablet in the market but now the situation is changed when it comes to competition as HTC launched their 5.5 inches desire 816 retailing at the price of 24k!
At first glance you would've thought that the HTC Desire 816 was a high profile handset. At 156.6 x 78.7x7.99mm and 165.5g it's is surprisingly comfortable to carry around. In fact, it is slim and light for a phablet. On the downside, the phone is made out of polycarbonate plastic rather than lush aluminum, unlike the HTC One M8. The back is I said before is a little slippery and the side is matte which tends to get dirty sometimes! The design overall is fantastic given the price!
The desire 816 already won in its comparison with Sony Xperia T2 ultra in my recent article and now it's time for the final battle of the best mid range phablet! Let us begin!
While on the brighter side, you do get price benefit when you opt for the Nokia lumia 1320 which is retailing at the price of 20k! But we are going to compare them head to head!
DESIGN AND BUILD!
The Lumia 1320 looks more or less similar to traditional Nokia made devices. It has a straight forward design but a bit chunk at 164.2 x 85.9 x 9.8 mm and weighs 220g. The back of the lumia 1320 has much more grip while using for a longer period but it is not that attractive especially the black one which is really ugly and you should avoid that colour or always use a cover while using that colour!
The design points go to the desire 816 which feels and looks much more premium!
While on the other hand, the material points go to the lumia 1320 which is much more comfortable to hold!
DISPLAY.
The display again surprisingly is similar in both the devices that is 720p which looks a lot different on both the devices!
In the field of outdoor visibility, viewing angles or colour contrast, both phones are fantastic and have incredible display!
Display is not that great on either phonesbut when it comes to pixels, the desire 816 is the winner but when we compare them in reality, the case is almost similar and there is no difference at all!
If you are a reader and love to read on the go, the lumia 1320 is better with its ClearBlack technology and bigger display!
HARDWARE.
When it comes to hardware, both have all the connectivity options and neither of them lacks in them!
But when it speakers, you know who the winner is! The HTC desire 816 boomsound outruns the Nokia lumia 1320 at a much higher level and it is still the best in this range!
However when we talk about battery,
The HTC Desire 816 has a 2600mAh battery fitted inside, which the company claims to run for a longer duration.
The Nokia Lumia 1320 features a 3400mAh battery which can keep this beast for some more extra hours.
So in conclusion, the battery on the Nokia lumia 1320 is better than the desire 816! If you are a moderate user, you can even get two days on the lumia 1320 which is great to have!
Both devices have 8GB of internal memory space. However, the Desire 816's 8GB of ROM can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card slot.
In case of the Nokia Lumia 1320, a user can expand the internal memory up to 64GB via a microSD card slot.
The HTC Desire 816 support Dual Nano SIM (GSM + CDMA GSM), whereas the Nokia Lumia 1320 doesn't support a dual SIM connectivity.
Both device have their own pros and cons, if you want entertainment, the desire 816 is better but if you want a longer run , the lumia 1320 is better!
SOFTWARE.
On the software side, it is totally up to you, which one you like better and I am not really going to talk about it that much as it would result in a battle of windows phone and android!
Both operating systems and UI are great and stable!
PERFORMANCE.
The HTC Desire 816 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz and 1.5GB of RAM which performs like a beast whether it is multi tasking or high end games!
The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 1.7GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, making it slightly less powerful when compared to the HTC Desire 816. However, it should be noted that Windows Phone 8 requires less power to run the hardware as always!
Performance is not really a concern on either device and you would face absolutely no lags!
Gaming points however will go to the HTC desire 816!
CAMERA.
Camera is the only place where we actually have a clear winner!
Camera as I said in my every article is great on this device! Especially in low light, the camera performs better than our expectations! Photos in almost all light conditions come out clear and detailed!
The case is totally opposite when it comes to the Lumia 1320!
The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 5MP rear-facing camera with a single LED flash, which can shoot 1080p FHD video recording, and has a VGA quality front-facing camera which is decent for video calls!
The camera on the lumia 1320 is not up to the mark but if you are not into photography that much and take photos occasionally, it is good! Photos come out great in sufficient lighting though!
The clear winner here is the HTC desire 816 with a much more capable camera!
TO SUM UP..
Both devices perform great in day to day usage! The pros of the lumia 1320 is bigger battery, ClearBlack display is great, and lesser price (4k INR benefit) while the pros of the HTC desire 816 are detailed display and camera! Choice is yours!
Winner technically is the HTC desire 816!
So i guess we have the best mid range phablet or smartphone!
